DECLAWING BANNED IN CALIFORNIA –
October 9, 2025 –
California Anti-Declaw Bill AB 867 was signed into law today by Governor Gavin Newsom. The law makes nontherapeutic declawing illegal in the entire state. The bill was authored by State Assemblymember Alex Lee.
The bill was sponsored by The Paw Project, and co-sponsored by Animal Legal Defense Fund, Humane Veterinary Medical Alliance, and Humane World for Animals.
