Easton becomes third Pennsylvania city to outlaw declawing–

March 22, 2023 –
The city of Easton unanimously passed a new law on March 22, 2023 that will ban the declawing of cats, making it the third city in Pennsylvania and the second city in the Lehigh Valley to approve the animal protection measure.

Easton Councilwoman Taiba Sultana introduced the measure, which is modeled after Allentown’s law. Sultana called the ordinance a “proactive measure” meant to curb declawing. Paw Project Director and Founder Dr. Jennifer Conrad said, “We are happy to continue to help local governments draft solid laws that really protect animals.”

“Easton is in a unique position to set the tone of compassion for cats in the state of Pennsylvania,” local resident Stephanie Gallagher said. “Claws are intrinsic to being a cat.”
