MI Anti-Declaw Bill, HB 6459, Introduced –

Michigan State Representative Yousef Rabhi has introduced HB 6459, which would prohibit declawing in Michigan. The current bill is very similar to an earlier bill, HB 5508, introduced by Representative Nate Shannon in 2020. That bill was not heard in committee and became inactive. Representative Rabhi was a co-sponsor of that bill.
The Michigan Anti-Declaw Bill was patterned after the Paw Project-sponsored New York Anti-Declaw Bill, which was enacted in 2019. Rabhi’s term ends in 2023 due to the state’s term limits.
