Maryland Anti-Declaw Bill Passes Senate

MD Anti-Declaw Bill, SB67, Approved by Senate Floor Vote –

February 21, 2022 –
Maryland’s Anti-Declaw Bill, SB67, passed with a 32-14 bipartisan vote by the entire Maryland Senate. The bill would make nontherapeutic declawing illegal and was authored by State Senator Cheryl Kagan. Paw Project Director and Founder Dr. Jennifer Conrad provided testimony at the virtual Committee hearing.

The House vote is pending for Delegate Lorig Charkoudian‘s companion bill, HB22. The bills must pass both houses of the legislature and be signed by the governor before becoming law.
